The Alinder gallery opened in Gualala in April of 1990 and in the ensuing decades has brought the best of creative photography to the North Coast. While specializing in the photography of Ansel Adams, the gallery exhibits the work of numerous other great image makers. Mary Street Alinder is an independent scholar specializing in the history of photography. She is the biographer of Ansel Adams and an authority on 20th century photography. Jim Alinder holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in photography and its history. He has written or edited more than two dozen books on fine photography. The Alinders have curated more than 100 exhibitions worldwide, including the 1987 Ansel Adams blockbuster at San Francisco's de Young Museum and a 2002 Centennial Adams exhibit. The gallery is located at Seacliff Center in downtown Gualala at 39140 South Highway One.
